Proactive Communicator
While employed at the Scottsdale Chamber, I received a severe complaint from a high paying investor. His complaint included dissatisfaction with his return on membership investment (only $300).
I called him up, asked him to clarify his complaint, agreed with him in his assumption, and then asked him if he would like to serve on a committee to help us solve the problem for him and for others. He said yes, we formed a committee serving top investors, and he became its chair. He is now Scottsdale Chamber’s premier ambassador and brand builder and has a seat on the board.
Proactive communicators identify and realize obstacles in the way of success but focus their time and energy on what they can influence and direct. Proactive communicators pause, reflect, and then respond positively. Any language or action directed otherwise is futile.
